Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh on Monday flagged off the 64th pilgrimage bus from village Berianwala in the Jandiala Guru Assembly constituency. The bus will take devotees to Sri Anandpur Sahib, Sri Kiratpur Sahib and Sri Naina Devi Dham for darshan.

Addressing the devotees on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is implementing the Chief Minister Pilgrimage Scheme, under which residents of the state are being provided free pilgrimage facilities to various religious shrines.

He said that the pilgrimage is completely free of cost. Besides providing transportation to and from the religious destinations, the state government also makes necessary arrangements, including accommodation and other facilities during the journey, so that people from every section of society can visit holy places according to their faith without any financial burden.

The Cabinet Minister said that so far, more than five lakh pilgrims from across the state have visited various religious shrines under the scheme, while pilgrimage buses are being flagged off daily from different Assembly constituencies. He added that today’s bus was the 64th pilgrimage bus to be flagged off from the Jandiala Guru Assembly constituency.

He said that people across Punjab are highly satisfied with the Chief Minister Pilgrimage Scheme. He added that elderly pilgrims, in particular, have appreciated the initiative and expressed the sentiment that by facilitating their pilgrimage to holy places, the Punjab Government has fulfilled the role of a ‘Sarvan Putar’ (devoted son).
