Nayab Singh Saini directed officials to prioritise uninterrupted drinking water supply across Haryana during the summer season, stressing that all ponds, waterworks, and reservoirs must remain adequately filled.

He issued these instructions on Saturday while reviewing the status of drinking and irrigation water with officials from the Public Health and Irrigation Departments at the Civil Secretariat.

The Chief Minister also announced an upcoming meeting with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to discuss the Kishau and other inter-state water projects involving Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, with officials from the concerned states expected to attend.

Emphasising preparedness, Saini said there should be no shortage of water in both rural and urban areas. He directed that canal-linked waterworks and ponds must be kept filled, while any non-functional tube wells in groundwater-based supply areas should be repaired on priority. If necessary, water should be supplied through tankers.

Officials informed that water availability in the Bhakra Dam is favourable this year, with levels currently 36 feet higher than usual. Haryana has so far utilised only about 75–76% of its allocated share from the dam.

The Chief Minister also reviewed rural water infrastructure, where officials reported that the state has around 4,000 single-village waterworks and 2,500 multi-village systems. All are connected to canals and currently have sufficient drinking water supply.
