Two sanitation workers died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewer line in Nuh district late Tuesday night, police said. A third worker is in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 10 pm near Ambedkar Chowk in Ferozepur Jhirka along National Highway 248A. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Kalam from Uttar Pradesh and Kalwa from Palwal, Haryana, while the injured worker, Arbaz from Meerut, is undergoing treatment at Al Afia Civil Hospital in Mandi Kheda.

According to officials, the workers entered the sewer one after another after failing to respond, and were later pulled out during a rescue operation. Two were declared dead, while Arbaz remains critical.

Police have registered an FIR against contractor Taufiq and two Public Health Department officials. The contractor is currently absconding.
