In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Commissionerate Police Amritsar has busted an illegal arms supply network with the arrest of three accused persons, and recovered two AK-47 rifles along with three magazines and 50 live cartridges from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

 Those arrested have been identified as Gurmukh Singh (27), a resident of village Chattiwind in Amritsar Rural; Parasdeep Singh (26), a resident of Bhai Manjh Road in Amritsar; and Gurjant Singh (24), a resident of village Jaur Singh Wala in Tarn Taran.

 DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with a foreign-based arms smuggler and were involved in supplying illegal arms to criminal elements in the region.

 The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages in this case to identify other persons involved in this module, besides, verifying the foreign-based smuggling connection, and uncover the wider illegal arms supply network.

 Sharing operational details, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that acting on specific intelligence input, police arrested two suspects, identified as Gurmukh Singh and Parasdeep Singh, and recovered two AK-47 rifles along with three magazines and 50 live cartridges from their possession.

During further investigation, the arrested accused disclosed that the illegal arms had been procured through Gurjant Singh, said the CP, while adding that based on their disclosure, Gurjant Singh was nominated in the case and subsequently arrested by the police.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 205 dated 05.09.2026 under sections 111 and 113 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar.
