Amritsar, December 17
The Municipal Corporation, Amritsar has warned citizens against anyone demanding money in the name of the GIS survey being conducted for digital mapping of properties (houses, commercial and residential buildings, shops, factories, etc.) within the city limits.
Providing details, Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said that the Local Bodies Department, Punjab has awarded the contract for digital mapping of around four lakh properties in the city to Cyber Swift Company. It has come to his notice that some people are illegally collecting Rs 100 per household from residents in the name of the GIS survey, which is completely wrong.
He clarified that the Municipal Corporation has not engaged any company or institution other than Cyber Swift for conducting the GIS survey, and the survey is being carried out free of cost by the company’s authorized staff through door-to-door visits. Citizens are only required to provide information related to their properties. If anyone demands money in the name of the survey, residents should immediately inform the Municipal Corporation.
Sharing an update on the survey’s progress, the Commissioner said that GIS survey teams are currently conducting door-to-door surveys in Ward Nos. 3, 4, 31, and 67, and within the next 10–15 days, survey work will begin in Ward Nos. 7, 32, 69, and 71.
He appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the survey teams and provide accurate information, stating that digital mapping will help the Municipal Corporation upgrade the city’s basic infrastructure, improve town planning and public transport systems, and enhance emergency services.
