Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora, arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in a money-laundering case, is likely to remain in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s cabinet, though without any portfolio.

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party on Monday redistributed his departments among three ministers.

New and Renewable Energy Minister Aman Arora has been assigned the Industry and Investment Promotion department, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains the Local Government department, and Rural Development Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond the Power department.

Chief Minister Mann forwarded the file regarding the reallocation of portfolios to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Monday evening, and it was subsequently approved.

Sources in the ruling party said that while a cabinet expansion was initially considered by the party leadership, the Chief Minister opted instead to redistribute the portfolios among existing ministers.
