The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has moved the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Vice President with a petition seeking the disqualification of all seven MPs, including Raghav Chadha, who switched to the BJP after the party declared it as a betrayal of the people of Punjab. Sharing this on Sunday, AAP leader in the House and MP Sanjay Singh stated that constitutional experts believe the disqualification of these MPs is inevitable, asserting that their actions constitute not just a betrayal of the AAP, but also of Punjab’s people, democracy, and the Constitution.

The AAP MP further said that the BJP has perfected the politics of defections by using central agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to intimidate opposition leaders before inducting them into its ranks.

 Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters on Sunday, AAP leader in Rajya Sabha and MP Sanjay Singh asserted that leading constitutional experts and senior advocates, including Kapil Sibal and P. D. T. Achary, have made it clear that the membership of all seven MPs who chose to merge with the BJP after leaving the AAP is bound to be terminated. “Even a Supreme Court lawyer associated with an NDA constituent had stated during a media interaction on Saturday that the membership of these leaders would go in any case,” he noted.

The senior AAP leader affirmed, “After consulting all experts and taking the opinion of Kapil Sibal, I have sent a petition to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and the Vice President of the country. In this petition, a request has been made that under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, the membership of all these seven members should be completely terminated. I have demanded from the Vice President (Chairman) that this matter be heard at the earliest and that a just decision be delivered.”

Explaining the urgency of the move, Sanjay Singh said, “This action is necessary because when a leader is elected from a party, he is later broken using the misuse of ED, CBI and other investigative agencies, and the BJP, which is adept at this game, inducts him into its party. This is completely wrong. This is a big betrayal of democracy. It is also a betrayal and treachery against the people of Punjab. Along with this, it is a betrayal of the Constitution of the country and an open mockery of it.”
